Renting an RV in the USA as an International Visitor: What You Need to Know
If you're flying into Atlanta from the UK, Europe, Australia, or Canada and you want to see America the right way — from the road, at your own pace — renting an RV is one of the best decisions you'll make on this trip.

Can I Drive an RV in the USA with a Foreign License?
Yes. Georgia accepts foreign driver's licenses for visitors. If your license is not in English, we recommend carrying an International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside your home country license. An IDP is not a standalone license — it works as a certified translation of your existing license and is widely recognized by rental companies and law enforcement across the US.
You can get an IDP before you travel from organizations like the AA (UK), ADAC (Germany), or AAA (USA). They typically cost around $20 and take a few days to process.
Minimum age: You must be at least 25 years old to rent from Scamper RV Rentals.
What Kind of RV Should I Choose?
We have three rigs in our fleet, and the right choice depends on your group size and comfort level.
Forest River Wolf Pup 17JW (Travel Trailer) — Available from our McDonough location. This is a lightweight trailer that requires a tow vehicle. If you're planning to rent a truck separately, this is a great option for couples or small groups who want flexibility. It's compact, easy to set up, and sleeps 4.
Entegra Odyssey 27U (Class C Motorhome) — Available from our Cumming location. This is a self-contained motorhome you drive like a large van. No tow vehicle needed. Sleeps 6, full kitchen, rear bedroom. This is the most popular choice for international visitors because it's all-in-one. Starting at $305/night.
Forest River Redhawk SE 26XD (Class C Motorhome) — Also available from our Cumming location. Similar to the Odyssey, this is a full motorhome with a slide-out for extra living space. Sleeps 6. Starting at $305/night.
Driving an RV in the USA: What's Different
If you've never driven on the right side of the road, or never driven a vehicle this size, here's what to expect:
American roads are wide. Interstates have generous lanes and long on-ramps. Once you're on the highway, driving an RV is straightforward. The challenge is parking lots, gas stations, and tight turns in cities — plan your stops at truck stops and RV-friendly rest areas where possible.
Speed limits are in miles per hour, not kilometres. The interstate speed limit is typically 65–70 mph (105–113 km/h). In our RVs, plan to cruise at 60–65 mph for comfort and fuel efficiency.
Fuel is gasoline (petrol), not diesel, for our Class C motorhomes. Fuel is significantly cheaper in the US than in Europe — typically $3–4 per gallon (about 0.65–0.85 USD per litre). Fill up at Pilot, Flying J, or Love's truck stops, which have pull-through lanes sized for RVs.
Where Can I Go from Atlanta?

A minimum rental period of 3 nights applies. We require a security deposit at the time of booking.
What's included: Fresh water tank filled, propane topped off, generator fuel, basic orientation on systems before you leave. We'll walk you through everything — water, power, grey tank, generator, slideouts — before you drive off the lot.
Grocery stocking: Pre-order your groceries online and have them shipped to us. We'll stock the RV before your departure so you're ready to go from the moment you leave the lot.
