Nashville is close enough for a long weekend and far enough to feel like a real trip. Four hours on I-24 through Chattanooga and you're in Music City. Rent an RV from Atlanta, skip the downtown hotel rates, and use the campground as your base while you hit Broadway, eat your weight in hot chicken, and catch live music every night.
The Drive
Take I-75 North from Atlanta to Chattanooga, then pick up I-24 West toward Nashville. The drive through Chattanooga is scenic — you'll cross Lookout Mountain and run along the Tennessee River. Budget 4 hours including a fuel stop. The last stretch into Nashville on I-24 can have traffic during rush hour, so aim to arrive mid-morning or early afternoon.
Where to Camp Near Nashville
Nashville KOA Resort in Goodlettsville is the best-positioned campground for a Nashville trip. It's about 15 miles north of downtown, full hookups, pool, and a shuttle service to the city on weekends. Sites run $60–$90/night.
Two Rivers Campground is closer to downtown — about 5 miles from Broadway — and sits along the Cumberland River. Full hookups available. It fills up fast on weekends, so book ahead.
Jellystone Park Nashville in Lebanon is about 30 miles east of the city. More of a resort campground with amenities, better for families with kids who want pool time alongside the city visits.
What to Do
Broadway is the main event — honky-tonks, live music starting at noon, and the best people-watching in the South. Ryman Auditorium is worth a show if anything is playing during your visit. The Country Music Hall of Fame is a half-day well spent even if you're not a country fan.
For food: Prince's Hot Chicken (the original), Hattie B's, and Party Fowl are the top spots for Nashville hot chicken. Biscuit Love in the Gulch for breakfast. The Pharmacy Burger for a low-key dinner.
Outside the city: The Natchez Trace Parkway starts just south of Nashville and is one of the best scenic drives in the country — no commercial vehicles, 50 mph limit, and 444 miles of history all the way to Natchez, MS. Even a 50-mile stretch of it is worth the detour.
Weekend Itinerary
Day 1: Drive up from Atlanta, set up camp, walk Broadway at night. Day 2: Country Music Hall of Fame in the morning, hot chicken for lunch, Ryman show at night. Day 3: Natchez Trace day drive, back to camp, drive home Sunday morning.
